Methods for analyzing the light variations of eclipsing binaries in the frequency domain, which were originally developed to interpret mutual eclipses in systems consisting of spherical stars, are extended to analyze the light variations between minima and during eclipses of close binaries with components distorted by axial rotation and mutual tidal action. Theoretical light variations of distorted close binaries between minima and during eclipses are deduced and then analyzed in the frequency domain. Explicit formulas are obtained which enable photometric-proximity and eclipse effects to be separated directly from observational data without any preliminary 'rectification'. Photometric perturbations in the frequency domain due to rotational and tidal distortion of both stars in a system are also formulated explicitly. Practical applications of these methods are considered.
