Results are presented for spectral observations of 73 galaxies characterized by high surface brightness. Unbroadened spectra in the wavelength region from 5800 to 7500 A were obtained using a spectrograph and an image converter installed at the Cassegrain focus of a 125-cm reflector. Emission lines are found in the spectra of 40 galaxies; the apparent photographic magnitudes, redshifts, average surface brightness, emission-line intensities, absolute photographic magnitudes, and colors of these systems are tabulated. It is shown that the contribution from emission objects is less in red galaxies than in those of other colors and is greater in galaxies with outbursts or appearing in pairs or more complex systems. It is concluded that the presence of emission in a galactic spectrum is closely associated with the galaxy's color, morphology, and membership in a system of galaxies.
