Strömgren and Hβ photometry of 50 stars in the fields of Tr 16 and Car OB2 is presented. The colour excesses, the distances, the luminosities and the temperatures of the stars have been obtained. The masses and the ages of the stars investigated are also estimated, based on the Maeder & Meynet models. Some arguments are put forward to suggest that Tr 16 and Car OB 2 are a projection of blue stars on the same area rather than physically related systems. The higher surface density of blue stars in this direction is due to the unique position of this region. This is the only place in the Galaxy where the line of sight is parallel to the arm ridge.
