Two major observational programs are described which trace the galactic star formation as a function of environment in the vicinity of rich clusters at both low and intermediate redshifts. Both involve the use of the Hα emission line to provide a direct measure of the instantaneous star formation rate. Both of these surveys provide strong evidence that, relative to the field, star formation is suppressed in these environments out to very large clustercentric radii (R > 3R_v) or, equivalently, where the local galaxy density has dropped to that typical of the group environment. We also find further evidence that significant amounts of the star formation in distant clusters is obscured when viewed at optical rest wavelengths.
