The anomalous ionization observed in the E-layer in the region of the near-polar boundary of the daytime cusp in the case of the northward IMF might be caused by the pulsed precipitation of particles during reconnection of the geomagnetic field with the northward IMF. It is shown that in about half the cases an increase in anomalous ionization is observed in the case of a sharp reduction in the magnitude of the northward IMF component or in the case of short Bz less than 0 pulses on the background of the positive direction of the IMF.
