The roughly 1 MeV minimum energy required to creat a single electron/postron pair presents something of a challenge in creating conduction particles in a vacuum setting. In recent years, this problem has been avoided, as we will discuss. Nevertheless, some attention is needed in applying thus solutions to several problems of astrophysical interest. Research supported in part through the Smithsonian Institute.
