I will present the latest results from the searches for gravitational waves in LIGO and Virgo data, including the results from a blind injection experiment in 2010 on the ability to make a discovery, and on the efforts to search for electromagnetic and high-energy counterparts of gravitational wave triggers. I will also review the bright prospects for gravitational wave astronomy with the Advanced LIGO and Virgo detectors now under construction.
