Calculations of Si III emission-line strengths, which incorporate the
non-Maxwellian electron energy distributions given by Shoub, are
compared with Skylab observations for the quiet Sun and a solar flare.
The good agreement provides plausible evidence for the existence of such
electron energy distributions in the lower solar transition region.
