The authors have determined the X-ray luminosity function of Abell
clusters from a sample with mean redshift 0.25. This luminosity function
is the same within the errors to that at low redshift. The time scale
for changes in the X-ray luminosity of clusters of galaxies is thus
greater than 4.0 billion years.
