The results of an investigation of the spectral line synthesis of the Mg II resonance in the wind of AB Aur are reported. The study is based on an interpretation of a set of models of the expanding outer layers of the star which correspond with IUE observations of Si IV and C IV resonance doublets. The models showed the presence of a deep and extended chromosphere in the wind of AB Aur with a maximum temperature of 15,000 to 20,000 deg K. Constraints on the velocity gradient at the bottom of the wind are determined, but the profiles of the Mg II resonance lines are not sensitive enough to the details of the velocity law v(r) in intermediate and outer regions of the wind to permit estimates of v(r) in those regions. The mass loss rate is found to lie between 4 x 10 to the -11th and 7 x 10 to the -9th solar mass per year.
