The star formation history of the entire NHDF is determined in the same manner as a previous study of the Deep NICMOS field in the NHDF. The study utilizes the WFPC2 NHDF images and archival NICMOS images of the entire NHDF taken in a GO program led by Mark Dickinson. The unique aspect of this study is the determination of extinctions for individual galaxies to correct for dust obscuration.
The star formation rate is found to be constant from a redshift of 1 to 6 and in accordance with the rates found from the study of Lyman break galaxies in the optical and sub-mm observations of the NHDF. The extinction corrections accurately predict the observed background flux in the sub-mm. This indicates that the deep HST optical and near-IR images do not miss a significant fraction of the star formation activity, although individual extremely extincted sources may missed.
