Broad-Line Regions: Seyfert Galaxies

The authors applied the reverberation mapping (RM) technique to the Seyfert galaxy NGC 4151 by using the optical monitoring data obtained in an international AGN watch campaign in which they took part in 1993. The following two kinds of RM analysis were carried out: (1) to clarify how a specific continuum variation can affect the delay of emission lines by use of Monte Carlo simulation; (2) to solve the BLR transfer function, which describes the size and structure of the BLR in NGC 4151, with the regularized linear inversion method. The authors have found that the transfer function of NGC 4151 drastically changed from its shape in 1988, and this is explained and discussed.
