We have constructed a series of evolutionary models which attempt to account for recent high resolution imagery for Betelgeuse including the variations in radius and surface luminosity. Changes in the surface brightness are modeled considering the combined effects of magnetic pressure, the redistribution of magnetic flux, convective hotspots, and a possible dust halo. The sum of available data place significant straints on models for stars near the tip of the giant branch.
