The Women's Science Forum is an educational outreach program at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, MD. Focusing on high school junior and senior girls who are already interested in science and are contemplating a college degree and a future career in the physical sciences, we address college and career options and opportunities with an emphasis on introducing the girls to a broad spectrum of female scientist role models. In the context of the WSF, the girls also designed and wrote a Web-based magazine called Hypatia's Legacy. Sponsored by a NASA IDEA grant over the 1996-97 and 1997-98 academic years, we have conducted surveys to assess the impact of the Forum. We will describe the WSF and its effects, the results of our evaluations, and our plans to improve the effectiveness of the program. We will also discuss the "lessons learned" for those interested in doing similar outreach programs.
