In high-mass X-ray binary systems where the compact object is embedded in a stellar wind of the companion star, emission lines are expected to be produced from a wide range in ionization parameter. The X-ray spectrum of such systems can be characterized by differential emission measure distributions in the context of photoionization models. The shape of the distribution depends sensitively on the structure of the stellar wind. We apply the results to analyze archival ASCA data of several massive X-ray binaries that are known to contain strong, radiatively-driven stellar winds.
