The three born-again objects FG Sge, V605 Aql, and Sakurai's object set the benchmark for all theorists who want to model post-AGB evolution through late and very late thermal pulses. We see stellar evolution before our eyes, but the past evolution has to be inferred by indirect means whose reliability is not always critically examined. In this review I will discuss the present status of our knowledge about these objects and will point to misconceptions that may spoil some of the recent findings.
