A weakly nonlinear theory of Chandrasekhar-Fermi instability problem in
a self-gravitating fluid column is investigated. The equation for the
complex amplitude modulation for a quasi-monochromatic progressive wave
is obtained. It is found that the wave train of constant amplitude is
modulationally unstable.
