I will discuss how polarization observations of Seyfert galaxies and Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) can be used to derive important and astrophysically interesting information on the nature, structure, and geometry of the central environs of these objects. Optical spectro- and imaging polarimetric observations will be presented, with special emphasis on the recognition and treatment of contaminating effects caused by interstellar polarization, which arises from the alignment of intervening dust grains in our Galaxy. The usefulness of polarimetric techniques as an important diagnostics tool in studying supernova explosions will also be discussed.
