The principal first inferences that have been drawn from the GONG data concerning the internal structure of the Sun will be reported. After explaining briefly the procedures by which the inferences have been drawn, deviations of the spherically averaged structure of the Sun from that of standard solar models will be presented. Those deviations occur predominantly near the base of the convection zone, and perhaps in the energy-generating core. There is also evidence for a deviation from spherical symmetry, principally near the surface. The possible physical implications of our findings will be discussed.
