The existence of general spectral properties common to all Seyfert 1 nuclei is considered. The IUE, and other UV data, indicate that in variable Seyfert nuclei the UV continuum is always harder when it is brighter. The full width at half maximum of CIII 1909 A is often found to be smaller than that of CIV 1550 A, in contrast with quasars where these lines appear with identical profiles.
