Ultraviolet and visual spectra of BD + 10 deg 2179 were analyzed, using line blanketed LTE model atmospheres. The atmosphere consists mainly of helium (98.9% by number) with a small admixture of carbon (1%). Hydrogen is reduced to 0.1% by number. The metal abundances are considerably different from those of the Sun (when normalized with respect to total mass). The abundance pattern for elements heavier than magnesium is very similar to that of the high velocity giant alpha Boo, i.e., the iron group is underabundant by roughly 1.0 dex., while Al-S are approximately solar. Analysis of other helium stars shows that these stars do not form a homogeneous group with respect to their surface composition. Their masses range from 0.6 to 1.0 M.
