It is shown how ultraviolet astronomy has the capability of addressing
many fundamental questions in extragalactic astronomy and cosmology. The
importance of discoveries relating to GNC 4151 is stressed. Space
telescope uses are considered and the contribution of IUE is discussed.
The need for systematic observations of normal galaxies is emphasized.
