Scientific paper

The Haystack Observatory 37 m telescope has been used to search for the CO J= 1-0 line reported by Tsuboi & Nakai PASJ, 46, L179 (1994)] from the z = 2.286 infrared galaxy/quasar IRAS F10214+4724. The line was not detected, with a 3σ upper limit on the line strength nearly a factor of 3 below the value reported by those authors. If this result is correct, the high mass of low density gas implied by the previous measurement is not indicated.
