The decay of young, nonstationary star clusters through an impulsive loss of gas is investigated. Dynamical equations for the evolution of the clusters are set forth and integrated, showing the cluster's loss of sphericity over time, the movement of stars out of the cluster, and the cluster's eventual stabilization. Numerical solutions are presented for clusters of 50 and 500 solar masses. After gas is impulsively ejected from the cluster, the constant energy integral of the system becomes negative, the virial radius decreases, and the cluster evolves at a rate depending on the velocity with which the stars stream out from beneath the critical surface. The consequences of these events for the physical parameters of clusters are discussed.
