An Advanced Solar Correlation Tracker (ASCT) has been developed for and integrated at the Vacuum Tower Telescope on Tenerife. The optical system of the ASCT allows for its use as a standard instrument of the existing telescope and stabilizes the image at the Echelle spectrograph entrance focal plane. The optics of the ASCT maintains the optical performance of the telescope in all respects. This requires a full mirror system without any refractive component to guarantee the achromatic properties over the full wavelength range from 380nm to 2000nm. The correlator sensor uses the central part of the field of view of the spectrograph in order to account for the isoplanatism of the earth atmosphere. This is accomplished without disturbing the spectrograph field of view by means of a specially coated mirror that reflects most of the incident light to the spectrograph, and only a very small fraction of the light (8% in a 10nm wide band at 500nm) is transmitted to the sensor. A user-friendly realignment system has been developed to maintain the full functionality of both the spectrograph and the Correlation Tracker.
