Measurements of equivalent width are made in spectra of 40 galactic supergiants and 21 Small Magellanic Cloud stars. These measurements confirm the results of spectral classification in the SMC (Dubois et al., 1977) and show a general weakness of the metallic lines in the SMC star spectra. This weakness is not the same for all thy metals and some cases may be attributable to physical phenomena which occur in the atmospheres of these luminous stars.
