Many readers will have seen spectacular flares from the Iridium spacecraft (JBAA 108(4), August 1998). These flares, due to specular reflection from the spacecrafts' radio antennae, could be predicted to within a few seconds and they could be brighter than magnitude -7. By the time you read this such predictions may not be possible and, even though the flares may still be occurring, it will be a matter of chance if you see one.
