New observations of the strength of Paα, Hα, and Hβ lines in Cygnus A are used to determine the reddening to the narrow emission-line region in this galaxy. The observed Paα:Hα:Hβ ratios are well fitted by a pure Menzel-Baker case B spectrum with E(B-V) = 0.85±0.1. There is no evidence for significant collisional excitation of Hα and no evidence for an obscured broad-line component at Paα.
