Recently, we have been able to construct light curve templates of Type Ia supernovae for the near-IR JHK bands. This allows one to determine the near-IR maxima if one has data in the window from -12 to +10 days with respect to T(Bmax). We are now able to determine the absolute magnitudes at maximum of nearly two dozen Type Ia SNe. If we plot these absolute magnitudes vs. the decline rate parameter Δm15(B), the slope is zero within the errors for objects with Δm15(B) ≤ 1.7. In the near-IR, Type Ia SNe are better than standardizable candles. They are standard candles. The RMS scatter of the absolute magnitudes is ± 0.15 mag, giving us distances to ± 7 percent for all but the fastest decliners.
