Observations of recently discovered AM Herculis systems through the Sloan Digital Sky Survey have uncovered a new class of objects characterized by an extremely low mass transfer rate. In addition, these systems show unusual phase dependent flux and circular polarization variations which are not explicable in terms of the standard cyclotron emission model.
