The stability characteristics of Alfven internal gravity waves for an inviscid, nondissipative Boussinesq fluid undergoing shear in the presence of a density discontinuity are investigated, with and without the presence of a rigid boundary. The presence of linear shear is shown to have a destabilizing effect on the unstable modes, and a new unstable mode which is different from the ones previously reported is found. In the absence of a rigid boundary, magnetic field, and gradient in shear, the model reduces to that of Pellacani et al. (1978).
