The status of dielectronic recombination (DR) rate coefficients used for
modeling cosmic plasmas is discussed. A brief overview of theoretical
and experimental studies of DR is given. Results are shown which
demonstrate the astrophysical importance of accurate DR rates for
studies of the intergalactic medium.
