Spectrographic and photometric observations of the B type variable star ι Herculis are presented. A short period variation is detected in the photometric data. The amplitude is around 0.01 mag in a UV filter and the period equal to 0.12 or 0.14 day. The same time scale is present in the variations of radial velocity data and line intensity ratio. However the main feature in the radial velocity curve is a trend over a longer time scale. The relation of ι Herculis with the β CMa group is discussed. The authors confirm the existence of short period variations outside the instability strip towards lower temperatures.
