A low-amplitude, positive, Cotton effect, centered at about 340
millimicrons, has been observed in organic extracts of samples from
ordinary (noncarbonaceous) chondrites. Ancillary evidence renders it
likely that this optical activity derived from contamination by biologic
materials on Earth.
