This paper presents the analysis of a number of interplanetary shocks observed by near-Earth solar wind monitors. Single and four-spacecraft shock normal determination methods are compared and it is demonstrated that the four-spacecraft timing method is not generally more accurate than the single-spacecraft Rankine-Hugoniot fit. Moreover, the single-spacecraft methods, unlike the four-spacecraft ones, allow the determination of possible shock surface curvatures. Examples are presented where significant shock curvature are observed that can lead to 5-10 minutes forecast error for bow shock arrival times.
