The authors have obtained further Zeeman observations of the extreme T Tauri star RU Lup. They fail to confirm the suggestion of the presence of a magnetic field obtained in earlier work. A 3σ upper limit of 494 G is obtained for the mean longitudinal field strength if the present and previous data are averaged. A 3σ upper limit of 0.12 per cent is set for the average circular polarization around 5100 Å.
