The regularization method is used to study the question of the accuracy with which vertical variations of ionospheric electron density can be determined from satellite radio-occultation measurements of the ionosphere. The investigation is carried out in the isotropic plane-stratified ionosphere approximation, and the results indicate the high efficiency of the regularization method when applied to the inverse problem of transionospheric sounding.
