Rocket experiments releasing high altitude barium and strontium shaped charges were observed by ground-based imaging and Doppler imaging systems. Experiments investigated the perpendicular and field-aligned flows and accelerations of ions under auroral oval and polar cap conditions. Ion jets created by the releases were tracked to altitudes between 20,000 and 50,000 km above active auroras. Other releases used the shaped charge technique to test the critical velocity mechanism (Alfven). Results obtained by the imaging systems and the Doppler imaging systems, mapping the line-sight velocity distribution over the surface of the ion jets, are presented.
