A ground-based lidar located near Andenes, Norway (69 N, 16 E geographic coordinates) measured over 500 Na density profiles during the period November 25, 1985 to March 14, 1986. Data were obtained on 19 nights. The nightly averages and winter averages of the derived Na column density, the maximum Na density, the altitude of the maximum Na density, and the halfwidth of the sodium layer are reported. Results are compared with those obtained in lidar studies of the Na layer at geographic latitudes of 51 N and 80 N. Results confirm the considerable variability of the sodium layer, with halfwidth showing the greatest variability.
