Scientific paper

Bolometers, photosemiconductors, Josephson detectors, and pyroelectrical detectors are analyzed for a high altitude infrared spectroscopy balloon experiment. Various noise sources are considered, including current fluctuations, photo noise, phonon noise, thermal noise, generation-recombination noise, and flicker noise. Operational data are calculated for a bolometer and a design analysis is made. A design for a Helium-3 cryostat is provided.
