The paper presents Nd and Sr isotopic analyses for a suite of five eclogite paragenesis garnet inclusions from five individual Finsch diamonds, and one garnet websterite association clinopyroxene from a Kimberly Pool diamond. The purpose of the study is to demonstrate that analysis of inclusions in single diamonds is possible provided that inclusions sizes approach the upper limit known in diamonds, and that the mass-spectrometer techniques utilized are sufficiently sensitive. It is noted that major element composition and Sr and Nd isotopic indicate that large eclogitic paragenesis diamonds from the Finsch kimberlite comprise a heterogeneous population. Neodymium model ages of Finsch eclogite paragenesis inclusions are found to be Proterozoic, while some of the eclogitic diamonds show evidence of derivation from the subducted altered oceanic crust/lithosphere.
