VLA observations at 2 and 6 cm with resolution of ≈6arcsec of the H II region S201 are presented. The radio source has a bright arc-shaped edge on one side and a smoothly decreasing surface brightness distribution on the opposite side. This configuration is interpreted in terms of a three dimensional electron distribution produced by the ionizing radiation of an early type star located outside a spherical molecular cloud. The classical model of a Strömgren sphere H II region is strongly altered by the gas outflow from the ionization front eroding the molecular cloud. Parameters of the model are optimized by matching a surface brightness model to the observed distribution. An O9 ZAMS star placed at a distance of 0.38 pc from a molecular cloud of 0.42 pc radius allows a good fit to the available data. The molecular cloud is eroded at a rate of 6.2×10-5M_sun;yr-1 and its gas outflow can produce the observed H II region on a time scale of 8×105yr.
