Voyager observations of the Jovian radio emission at hectometer- and decameter-wavelengths are well correlated. On the other hand, the probability of observing Io-independent Jovian decametric emission from Nançay is shown to be highly variable. These variations correspond well to fluctuations of hectometric activity, influenced by the solar wind, observed by Voyager. This implies that the hectometric and non-Io decametric events originate from the same source regions, at high latitudes in the Jovian magnetosphere, and that the altitude extent of the source covers several planetary radii, like the source of Saturn kilometric radiation. No effect is found for the Io-dependent emission, which is consistent with a source close to the Io field line. Spacecraft low-frequency and ground-based high frequency observations of the Jovian radio-emission are thus shown to be complementary.
