Data contained in the Catalogue prepared by Manchester and Taylor (1981) have been used to derive information on the luminosity decay of radio pulsars. It is found that the ratio 'number of old pulsars/number of young pulsars' decreases steadily with increasing distance. This effect can be understood by adopting a certain shape of the luminosity function.
