New measurements of the diffuse radio halo from the Coma cluster at a wavelength λ11 cm are presented. After correcting for the contribution from point sources the authors derived the integrated diffuse radio flux density from the halo (Coma C) to S2.7 GHz = 70±20 mJy. This value is significantly smaller than the power law extrapolation from lower frequencies, and indicates a strong steepening of the radio spectrum of Coma C at high frequencies (ν > 1 GHz). The authors quantitatively compared this result with the predictions for the integrated diffuse radio flux density spectrum of the three basic models for cluster radio halo formation: the primary electron model, the secondary electron model, and the in-situ acceleration model. A remarkably good fit is provided by the in-situ acceleration model, which therefore has to be favoured over both, primary and secondary electron models.
