Solar Radio Emission-Radio Bursts-Spectral Analysis

Scientific paper

Using the high time resolution and high sensitivity data on the intensity, polarization, position and size of Type III burst groups obtained at 5 frequencies with the Nan\¯ccay radio heliograph, we have made a careful Fourier transform spectral analysis. Our study further confirms the existence of periodicity in Type III burst groups, most of the events have periods between 1 and 6 seconds and show multiple periods at 90% confidence level or better. Especially we found that the Type III burst groups can be divided into two classes, one with weak polarization and with periods over a wide range up to 6 seconds, the other with strong polarization and short periods less than 2 seconds and smaller size compact sources.
