The recent correction by Michael and Blackshear (1973) of the 13th degree spherical harmonic coefficients of the lunar gravitational potentials makes it possible to utilize these data also in an estimate of the density perturbations inside the moon. Density perturbations and stress differences are considered along with the effect of the surface topography. It is suggested that the present day stress differences are probably the remainders of larger ones which possibly existed inside the moon since the formation of the mascons.
