Aperture synthesis of the H2CO absorption in the direction of W3 has been carried out with a resolution of 20 arc sec. The absorption against a number of continuum maxima believed to be compact H II regions shows a uniformity in optical depth and velocity. This suggests that the absorption occurs in a single H2CO cloud rather than in separate clouds associated with the dense dust envelopes of the H II regions.
