We wish to obtain MOPS Broadband spectra toward a sample of 190 Infrared Dark Cloud (IRDC) cores to study their chemistry. IRDCs are identified by their high mid-infrared opacities and are thought to be the precursors to cluster-forming clumps. Our recent mm continuum survey with the IRAM 30m of northern IRDCs revealed each IRDC to contain at least one compact core. Recent CS (2--1) observations of 35 southern IRDCs with Mopra also show that each IRDC contains at least one compact core. Because the core masses and sizes are comparable to hot cores that form individual high-mass stars, we suggest that IRDC cores will also form individual high-mass stars. We now wish to determine the chemical states of active and quiescent cores by obtaining broadband spectra toward our sample of 190 IRDC cores at 89690 MHz. The molecular transitions at this frequency, in particular C2H, CH3CN, and SiO, will show which of these cores are in the hot core phase and which cores are in a colder, earlier evolutionary state. Thus, these data will allow us to probe the early stages and chemical evolution of high-mass star formation.
