In this proposal we request time with the interim CABB system to search for molecular gas in high redshift radio galaxies. We will use the 7mm system to search for the CO(2-1) emission line from the most distant known radio galaxy (z=5.2) as well as the Spiderweb radio galaxy (z=2.2) which is extremely well-studied in other wavelength bands. These pilot observations will be undertaken in part as a proof-of-concept of CABB. Our ultimate aim is to explore the molecular gas content in a statistically relevant sample of high-redshift radio galaxies (z>2) in order to probe the formation and evolution of the most massive galaxies in the Universe.
